Wedding photography at the Waterhead Hotel, Coniston, Cumbria for Angela and Tony on 17 September 2010
As wedding photographers in West Yorkshire, we travelled a lot further than usual on Thursday, heading up to the Waterhead Hotel in Coniston, Cumbria to prepare for Angie and Tony's wedding the day after. We have known Angie's parents, Marilyn and John, for many years and we were delighted to be asked to photograph their lovely daughter's wedding.
An absolutely stunning location for a wedding venue, the Waterhead Hotel stands just a few yards from the shore of Coniston Water. Arriving the day before the wedding gave us a chance to have a look round for locations for photographs and we weren't disappointed. It was also a pleasure to get acquainted with the staff, in particular the wedding co-ordinator, Laura, who couldn't do enough for us. Thank you Laura for making the wedding run so smoothly and for looking after us so well.

In true Lake District fashion, the weather was changeable, alternating between warm sunshine, fine drizzle, full on rain and back again. However, the weather forecast for Friday was good - the best day of the week. How lucky is that?
After photographing Angie's accessories and her gorgeous dress, which she had designed herself and which was one of a kind, we met up with the boys and enjoyed some time with them around the beautiful grounds of the hotel before returning to Angie a few minutes before the ceremony.
As we aren't too familiar with the Cumbrian registrars, we didn't know what their policy is regarding photography during the ceremony but today we struck lucky! The registrar was so nice and very obliging when it came to allowing us to capture Angie and Tony tying the knot.
Following the ceremony, the guests enjoyed champagne in the hotel grounds whilst we completed the group photographs, followed by our favourite time at a wedding - the time when we can work with the couple.
All the bridal party were up for a laugh...

And so was Angie - she looked amazing!
The jetty is just a short walk from the hotel and a fantastic location for romantic photographs - beautiful!
The plans for the wedding were quite unique and very personal to Angie and Tony. They had organised an hour's boat trip on Coniston Water for all their guests and we managed to hitch a ride too. It was really enjoyable and also fascinating listening to the skipper telling everyone some of the history surrounding the location, in particular about Donald Campbell and Bluebird.
Back on dry land, the last job before the evening wedding breakfast was to photograph the room all set up in its lilac and white colour scheme.
Angie and Tony had told us that they planned to release some heart shaped Chinese lanterns and we nipped outside between the starter and the main course to capture this for them.
Our sincere thanks to the new Mr and Mrs Thickbroom for giving us the opportunity to capture their amazing, fun wedding day in such a picturesque and beautiful location.
