Rachel and David are friends of Gareth and Siobhan whose wedding we photographed two years ago and it's always nice to be recommended by previous clients. We really appreciate this and it's the best advertising anyone could wish for.
As King's Croft wedding photographers, we've worked at this local venue a lot in the past but it was our first wedding there this year and we were hoping for some decent weather too, especially as Rachel had been checking the forecast repeatedly over the previous couple of weeks and reporting her findings to her friends on Facebook. The forecast wasn't good so we advised her not to bother checking any more. We suspect she did though! As it turned out, her fears of it raining all day long were thankfully unfounded and when we arrived at the King's Croft it was dry and overcast which is perfect for wedding photography. Brides generally want blazing sunshine but photographers, if they could choose, don't.
We knew in advance what Rachel's dress was like as she'd shared a photograph of it with us and because of its design, some images to show the back were definitely in order. Her lovely jewellery had been handmade for her and Dave had surprised her with a new bottle of perfume. We captured these details before leaving Rachel for a while to go outside with the couple's children, Ben and Isabel, and take some photographs of them. However, Ben had been given a compact camera as a gift and he enjoyed directing some shots perhaps more than being the subject of them. Think we might have a budding professional wedding photographer there!
Dave had told us that he planned on arriving with his brother Wayne in Wayne's convertible if the weather was good, so some shots of the boys with it were a priority and a gravel lane at the bottom of the hotel grounds was a good place to park the car.
Rachel and Dave were married in a civil ceremony in the Queen's Suite surrounded by their family and friends and with the weather still on our side, we made the most of the time we had to capture confetti being thrown over the happy couple, get them the group photos they wanted and some photographs together before using the last few minutes before the wedding breakfast to photograph the Queen's Suite set up and the cake and cupcakes which Rachel's mum had made.
The couple had a few surprises for their guests in the evening. An ice cream van arrived which went down a treat with everyone (including the photographers!) and a casino and a sweetie cart were set up inside for guests of all ages to enjoy - the kids loved the casino and we saw quite a few adults around the sweetie cart!
After an ice cream break, Rachel and Dave came with us to for a second couple photo session and some fun photographs to make Rachel laugh and really show off her beautiful dress. A nice bonus was the fact that the wheat hadn't yet been harvested and we could take her and Dave into the field for some early evening photographs together. We were just finishing these when we felt the first spots of rain but it by then it didn't matter as the evening party was almost due to start.
