Deborah and Rory chose a location with the "wow!" factor for their wedding reception. We had been looking forward very much to being their Castle Howard wedding photographers and to working at this spectacular venue.
The couple live in London, Deborah is Canadian and she and Rory have family in Canada and in York. The girls got ready at Deborah's aunt's beautiful home in Angram and this is where we began our coverage of the day, capturing images of Deborah's lovely dress and accessories, as well make-up being applied and a bit of fun with the girls before we left to meet Rory, his twin brother and best man, Marcus and the ushers for their photography at St Nicholas Church in Wigginton. As this was the first time we'd photographed a wedding at this church, we'd paid a visit a few weeks before and we were lucky enough to meet the vicar, who described himself as "very laid back" and true to his word, he allowed two photographers and two videographers to capture the wedding ceremony without restrictions. He had a great attitude, acknowledging that this was an extremely special day in a couple's lives and that they had paid a lot of money for everyone's services. It would be wonderful if all vicars were like him and we were extremely grateful to him for making our job easier and a very happy and pleasant experience.
We know that with wedding photography at Castle Howard, the bride and groom and their guests can only arrive when visitors to the house and gardens have left and the estate has closed and so we had quite a bit of time at the church after Deborah and Rory's wedding ceremony. As their family group photographs were very important to them and because they had asked for quite a large number, it was sensible to make the best use of the time by taking most of these at the church, leaving only the big group photo of everyone, the bridal party shots and Deborah and Rory's photographs together for when we got to Castle Howard.
It was an absolute scorcher of a day, right in the middle of the July heatwave, and although bright sunshine isn't a wedding photographer's favourite, it's certainly beats the wet stuff! After the group photos and confetti, we left for Castle Howard, arriving a few minutes ahead of the couple in their Beauford.
A late wedding does mean less time for photographs and when you have such an amazing location which offers so many fabulous backdrops both inside and out, most professional Yorkshire wedding photographers would wish to have longer to make the most of them. We did fit in as much as we possibly could until everyone was called for the wedding breakfast and speeches, after which the harsh sunlight had faded and the light was much softer. We were delighted when Deborah and Rory agreed to a few minutes with us outside to capture a a few more images around this amazing venue before it was first dance and evening party time.
Thank you so much for choosing us as your wedding photographers. We really appreciate it and we also appreciate the lovely feedback received from members of Deborah's family.
