Wedding Photographers for Rogerthorpe Manor

Wedding photography for Aimee and Richard - St Peter's church, Kirk Smeaton and Rogerthorpe Manor - 23 October 2010

As wedding photographers in West Yorkshire, we are regular photographers at Rogerthorpe Manor in Badsworth, near Pontefract, but today was very special and a bit more pressured too!  It was a pleasure to be chosen as Richard and Aimee's wedding photographers because they are such a fantastic couple but as Richard is the manager of Rogerthorpe Manor and his dad, Roger, is the owner, we had a lot to live up to!  We met up with Aimee at the couple's home in Carleton.  Aimee had her gorgeous dress hanging up in the lounge window, all ready for photographs.  Unusually, the bride had taken a back seat with the wedding planning, leaving Richard to organise almost everything, even choosing Aimee's dress!  Now most brides wouldn't have entertained this idea but Richard really did Aimee proud with his choice.  After we'd captured all the important details and some make-up shots, Aimee was in her dress in no time, allowing us to get some photographs of it being fastened and a few ready shots before we had to leave for church, arriving at exactly the same moment as Richard.  Aimee arrived by a slightly different mode of transport - a red London bus - accompanied by her proud brother Darren.  Following the wedding ceremony which was very personal and designed to include the couple's two fantastic sons, Logan and Ronnie, the new Mr and Mrs Metcalfe exited the church, spent a few minutes being congratulated by their guests and then hopped on board their red bus to travel to Rogerthorpe Manor.  With the threat of rain looming, we managed to secure the group photographs quickly before spending some time with Aimee and Richard around the venue's beautiful grounds.  Thankfully, the rain managed to hold off and we had a brilliant time with them both as they were so relaxed and easy to work with.  Aimee was definitely up for striking a pose or two so that we could create something spectacular for her, even though a couple of her friends had a go at  trying to sabotage the arty bridal photographs!  Too much champagne perhaps!  There were a lot of benefits to having Richard organising things - clearing the bar area for some contemporary wedding photographs was one of them and because Richard arranged it, no one could blame the photographer!  After dinner, Richard did the honours with the wedding cake - cutting it up himself so that it could be served to all the guests with dessert which we thought was a really nice touch.  It has to be said that Richard had organised so many things for the enjoyment of his guests and a huge priority for him was making sure that every one of them had a great day.  One the things he'd arranged was lazer clay pigeon shooting to entertain his guests after the wedding breakfast and this proved really popular with the ladies and gents alike.  In fact, one of the ladies was a crack shot...  We often take evening photographs outside Rogerthorpe Manor but because the clay pigeon shooting was going on at the front of the wedding venue, we didn't think it was a good idea to get in the way!  So we chose a different location and timed it for that perfect evening sky.  Richard and Aimee took to the dance floor and soon afterwards, the band, Joe Public, entertained the guests.  Thank you Aimee and Richard for allowing us to photograph your lovely family in the studio and for asking us to share your wedding day.  We're just sorry that Aston Villa lost!  Thank you also to Roger, Sheila, Ann and Darren for making us so welcome.  We had an amazing day!

Wedding photography Hazlewood Castle

As wedding photographers for Hazlewood Castle, we love working at this fabulous venue.  It's a gorgeous location for a wedding with beautiful backdrops for photographs around every corner.  We were delighted to receive two lovely thank you cards this week - one from Natalie and Chris whose wedding we photographed at Hazlewood Castle on 10 July this year and another all the way from Long Island, New York, from Kate and Chris who now live in the United States and who were married just a week later, on 17 July, again celebrating their marriage at Hazlewood Castle.  Thank you Natalie and Chris and Kate and Chris - it's so nice when couples take the time and trouble to do this and it's a fantastic feeling to know how much our efforts are appreciated.

"Thank you so much for capturing our special day in such a beautiful way.  You really paid attention to detail in every way and it was such a pleasure to be with you.  Love Natalie and Chris Wilson xx"

"Chris and I would just like to thank you both for doing such a great job with our wedding photos.  From start to finish you have just been fabulous and helped and advised us through it so much.  We haven't seen the finished product yet, with being over in the States, but my Mum and Dad have and they both said the album is wonderful, so we both cannot wait to see it.  We really would recommend you to anyone who asks and definitely use you again should another occasion arise.  Thanks again.  Kate and Chris xx"

Wedding Photography Tankersley Manor, Barnsley

Wedding photography Tankersley Manor, Barnsley - Kate and Stephen - 26 September 2010

Our third wedding in three days and we were very excited about sharing Kate and Stephen's special day because we knew how excited Kate was about getting married and we just knew she'd be a lot of fun to work with.  We started the day at Kate's mum and dad's house in Royston where professional make-up artist Nicola Shann was busy applying Kate's make-up.  Nicola is a lovely lady and incredibly talented and Kate's reaction when she saw herself in the mirror must have made Nicola's day as well as Kate's because our bride looked stunning.  Kate had chosen a beautiful and elegant wedding dress and it was a bonus that she was in it and completely ready a few minutes before we had to leave for Tankersley Manor in Barnsley.  Her dad, Trevor, was just a bit emotional when he first saw his daughter all ready for her wedding and as professional Yorkshire wedding photographers, it was a privilege to be there to capture some very special moments between them.  We must mention just how welcome Kate's parents made us and we really appreciate their hospitality.  Leaving Kate in the capable hands of bridesmaids, Michelle and Brook who were so helpful throughout the entire day, we left for Tankersley Manor to meet up with Stephen and his attendants Rob and Robert for their photographs before the ceremony.  Kate arrived a few minutes early, beaming through the window of the fabulous car, hired from Balmoral Wedding Cars of Sheffield.  We were very happy to be allowed to photograph the wedding ceremony from the front and from the back, capturing the joy of the occasion and a little emotion, especially during Michelle's reading for the bride and groom.  Afterwards it was outside for photographs with the car whilst the guests enjoyed the drinks reception, then on to the groups, some impressive confetti throwing and some fun shots with the attendants.  The girls were really up for this - Brook even cheered when we suggested it!  We love it when there's so much enthusiasm and Kate's lovely smile never faded all day.  The speeches were very funny and it was hilarious watching Kate's reactions to some of the things that were being said.  We'd previously discussed taking some night shots outside Tankersley Manor but as dusk arrived, Kate and Stephen had disappeared.  We set up anyway and we were hopeful that they would make an appearance at just the right time - that window of only a few minutes before the sky turns black.  As it happened, Kate's dad came to the rescue, saying that he would go and find them and a couple of minutes later, Kate came sprinting down the path asking if they were too late, closely followed by Stephen!  No guys, it was perfect timing and it was our pleasure to share your happy and fun wedding day with you and your amazing families and a privilege to be your wedding photographers.  Congratulations Mr and Mrs Threlfall!

Wedding Photography Leeds

Wedding photography All Saints' Church, Sherburn in Elmet and Steeton Hall, South Milford - Helen and Paul - 25 September 2010

Today there was a much hoped for improvement in the weather for the wedding celebrations of Helen and Paul and our first stop of the day was at the couple's home for a few pictures of Paul and the boys before we left to join Helen and the girls at her mum, Alison and step-dad, Chris's beautiful home in South Milford.  As wedding photographers in West Yorkshire, we've often driven past the gatehouse of Steeton Hall and wondered what was behind it.  Now we know! Steeton Hall - affectionately known by the family has Hassle Castle - is a gorgeous English Heritage property which has been converted into these amazing homes and this is where Helen was being pampered by her make-up artist when we arrived.  Shortly after our arrival, Alan Macmillan of MacMillan Films arrived to begin capturing the day on video.  We always enjoy working with Alan.  After documenting the girls' preparations, we left for the church to meet up with the boys.  Now we know from having been the wedding photographers at this beautiful church several times before that Rev Chris Wilton has very strict rules regarding ceremony photography but as always, we respect the wishes of whoever is conducting the marriage service and he kindly allowed us to photograph the wedding from the rear of the church.  Helen, looking amazing, arrived with her proud grandad Edward in a classic Rolls Royce.  Following the wedding ceremony, Mr and Mrs Airey mingled for a while, had a few group photographs taken, were showered with confetti at the church gate and then enjoyed champagne before leaving for Steeton Hall, which allowed us to drive to the wedding reception and wait for the couple's arrival.  Steeton Hall has the most beautiful backdrops for wedding photographs and the fact that this is Helen's mum and step-dad's home made it all the more personal and very special indeed.  We knew that Helen and Paul wanted a photograph of the marquee all set up and this proved a challenge as by the time we got there, the majority of the guests were inside it!  However, the big group shot provided a way around this, involving keeping everyone outside for just a big longer until we'd got the shots the couple wanted.  Leaving everyone to enjoy the wedding breakfast, we returned later to cover the speeches.  We've noticed how much the nights are drawing in now but this does have an advantage - we can get some spectacular evening shots much earlier.  When we had met up with Helen and Paul a few weeks before their wedding, we'd planned for some evening photographs around the gatehouse and we were hoping that everything would come together to enable us to do this - dry weather and the couple being available at just the perfect time when the sky goes a dark blue.  We timed it so that we could set up a few minutes early and we have Alan to thank for helping us to make it happen, including running back to the marquee at just the right time to ask Helen and Paul to come and join us.  We're really happy with the result and we hope you guys are too!  A brilliant day - thank you Mr and Mrs Airey!

Wedding photography Rogerthorpe Manor - Siobhan and Gareth - 24 September 2010

A very busy weekend with our first of three weddings in three days.  As regular wedding photographers at Rogerthorpe Manor, it's always a pleasure to work there.  Siobhan and Gareth's wedding was a small and intimate celebration with only a handful of very close family and friends in attendance.  We started the day in the bridal suite taking photographs of Siobhan's dress which was very special as it had been handmade by her talented sister, Grace.  We met up with Gareth and his best man for some shots around the grounds of the wedding venue, before heading back up to Siobhan who by now was in her dress and almost ready for the wedding ceremony.  As always, the Pontefract registrars did us and the couple proud, allowing us to photograph the civil ceremony.  A cool and breezy day, it did manage to stay dry so that we could work outside and with the number of guests being small, the "big" group shot didn't take too long to set up!  With the group photography done, we had plenty of time left for photographs of the newly married Mr and Mrs Hughes around the lovely grounds of Rogerthorpe Manor before everyone sat down for dinner around one big table in the Rose Room.  With the nights drawing in now, our evening photographs are getting earlier and we timed it so that the light was just perfect for these, and as it was a bit on the chilly side, we decided to set up before we invited Siobhan and Gareth outside for a few minutes to get some gorgeous shots with the venue lit up in the background.  Think it was worth a few goosebumps guys!  A full moon made an appearance too - what a nice bonus!  Thank you for asking us to capture your special day.

Wedding Photographers Wakefield

Wedding photography Wakefield Cathedral - Wedding photography Walton Hall - Caroline and Michael - 18 September 2010

Our second wedding of the weekend saw us join Caroline at her parents' house in Wakefield as she and the girls got ready.  Her gorgeous wedding dress was hanging in the bedroom and her perfume bottle made us smile - it was very appropriate.  Caroline's make-up artist and hair stylist were still busy pampering her when we had to leave for Wakefield Cathedral to meet up with the boys.  We kept Mike and his attendants occupied for a few minutes, taking his mind of any pre-ceremony jitters.  A new wedding venue for us and after a quick chat with the lovely vicar, we were delighted to have free reign to photograph the wedding ceremony from the front and from the back.  Caroline was expertly chauffeured to the cathedral with her proud dad by Robert Hepworth in an elegant, classic Rolls Royce, courtesy of Rolls Hire.  We love their cars!!  As always, it was a pleasure to work with Robert again, as he always does everything he can to help us get some good shots of the couple with the car.  Following a beautiful wedding ceremony, the newly married Mr and Mrs Rochford exited the cathedral, had a few group photographs taken and were showered with confetti.  The couple and their guests mingled for a while before travelling to Waterton Park for the wedding reception.  The weather was breezy and the threat of rain did hang ominously over the proceedings but we managed to capture the remaining group shots that the couple had requested, along with some beautiful images of Caroline and Mike together around the grounds of Walton Hall with its fabulous backdrops for wedding photographs, without getting wet!  After the wedding breakfast and speeches, heavy rain had decided to make an appearance so we spent some time with the couple taking some romantic shots and bridal portraits on the staircase - the ideal location to show off Caroline's dress with its long train.  She looked beautiful.  After capturing the couple's first dance, we couldn't leave without taking a few photographs as Caroline partied with her sister, Liz.  Caroline and Mike are now on honeymoon and Caroline has the job of editing her own wedding video when they come back!  Thank you for choosing us to capture your special day.
